Rocklin Councilmember Joe Patterson Announces Campaign for Assembly

Rocklin, CA – -Today, Rocklin City Councilmember and small-business owner Joe Patterson announced his candidacy for the newly drawn 5th Assembly District that is expected to be an open seat in 2022. The district is currently represented by Assemblyman Kevin Kiley who is expected to run for Congress. The district includes significant portions of Placer and El Dorado Counties, including the City of Rocklin where Patterson served as Mayor from 2018-2019.

“Our area has had the great privilege of being represented by Assemblymember Kevin Kiley. I will continue to defend our quality of life in the State Assembly,” said Joe Patterson. “There’s no sugar-coating it. Our state government is broken. Families and businesses are fleeing and those that remain are deeply concerned about the direction California is headed. Just today, the legislature pushed forward a proposal that will raise taxes by $160 billion dollars. People are fed up and they are looking for effective and conservative leadership that will solve problems and turn this state around.”

“In the Assembly, I will work to rein in failed policies that are driving up the cost of fuel, groceries, housing and utility bills. I will fight back against irrational and hypocritical pandemic responses that have damaged our children and employers. And I will forge alliances to combat increases in crime, homelessness and wildfires that are jeopardizing the safety of our communities,” said Patterson.

Patterson was elected to the Rocklin City Council in 2016. As a first-time candidate, Patterson earned the highest vote count in the city. He was re-elected in 2020 as the highest vote-getter once again with nearly 20,000 Rocklin voters supporting his candidacy.

On the Rocklin City Council, Patterson has a proven track record of leadership in the region. He has supported local businesses and non-profits with financial and regulatory relief both before and during the pandemic.

Joe and his wife Colleen have four young children that they are raising in the Placer County community. Patterson previously worked in the California State Legislature helping draft laws to increase penalties on sex offenders and prevent the early release of criminals. He previously served as Treasurer for the Rocklin Public Safety Foundation and prides himself in being one of the most accessible public servants in the region.
